Kendhoo
Kendhoo is a small, well-kept island whose residents are always happy to extend a warm welcome and genuine Maldivian hospitality. The island has several shops and cafés, as well as a watersports center where you can rent jet skis, ride a banana boat, try wakeboarding, take up kitesurfing or windsurfing, or learn waterskiing. Most locals work in fishing and also practice traditional coconut-leaf weaving, used to create roofs in the classic Maldivian style. Tourism arrived in Kendhoo relatively recently; the island has only a few guesthouses, but it is actively developing as an emerging destination.
Close to Kendhoo, five uninhabited islands are lined up in a neat row, forming a small archipelago often featured on Maldives postcards and brochures. Excursions to most of these islands can be arranged from Kendhoo—ideal for picnics, enjoying untouched nature, and exploring their rich house reefs.
The island’s tourist beach is small but cozy, and locals work hard to keep it clean and well maintained. Snorkeling enthusiasts will especially appreciate Kendhoo’s house reef, which is teeming with marine life and colorful corals and is easily accessible directly from the shore.
